Social Media Posts for Emmet County Government Communications Dept. (2018-2022)
In December 2018, I took the position of Director of Communications and Website Development for Emmet County government, located in the popular resort area of northern Michigan. When I started, the county’s main Facebook page had been deactivated for more than a year though the Facebook pages for the county’s parks, fair, airport, and EMS were still active with occasional posts by each department’s available staff. With the launch of the county’s new public bus service set for January 2019, county commissioners agreed to reactivate the county’s main Facebook page so I could more effectively promote the new bus service as well as other county amenities and services. After several months of managing the Facebook page, and reminding commissioners of my 12 years of experience managing the social media accounts for a traditional community newspaper, the board voted to allow me to expand the county’s online presence. Over the next three years, I worked to develop social media accounts for the county on Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Next Door. Google business accounts were also set up for three county parks and, with paid advertising on Facebook, attendance at park events increased. Though stretched thin as a one-person department and responsible for daily website updates and general communications duties, my social media posts helped grow the county’s various Facebook pages as stats show. Screenshots are shown below of some of my social media posts while working for the county. All text, photos and graphics in the posts were generated by me, unless otherwise stated.
