COVID-related
As a one-person Communications Department, working for county government was quite an experience in those first few weeks of the COVID-19 outbreak of March 2020. Information was changing every few hours while local leaders were trying to make decisions and plans, which frequently needed updated based on the latest available orders or guidance from state government and local health department officials. In addition to writing and disseminating news releases after consultation with the County Administrator, I was also gathering information from all department heads and court administrators so that I could create door signs for the county building and share up-to-date information with the pubic on the county website and social media. Since government communications/website management was considered “essential worker” activities, I continued to work throughout the pandemic, though I was able to work from home for the first six weeks. After creating the signage and getting it posted, I began working on developing a webpage on the county website specifically for all the COVID-related information. For the next 18 months, I continued to keep public information updated online daily, especially all relevant Zoom Meeting info for every board, committee, and commission until they resumed meeting in-person around September 2021. On this page are links to my COVID-related work.
The COVID webpage was designed by me based on the main large door sign that I created for the County Building. It is an HTML designed page that was added to the County’s WordPress site and linked to from the homepage. Clicking on this screenshot will open up the page that I maintained and updated for the first 18 months, but the link to it on the County website has since been taken down.
The first image below was the original design posted at the public entrance to the Courthouse and County Building. Other signs were created as requested by the county administrator, park managers, and building security officials.
The first image below was posted on the early afternoon of March 18, 2020, following the State of Emergency order declared by Governor Whitmer. The County Administrator had already held an emergency department head meeting the day before and all department heads had provided me with their contact info to create the list for the public. The information was posted on the County’s Facebook page and also posted at the building entrances.
